Albright: I will ‘register as Muslim’
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright says she is ready to “register as Muslim” after reports surfaced that President Donald Trump will sign two new executive orders having to do with Muslim immigration to the U.S.
“I was raised Catholic, became Episcopalian & found out later my family was Jewish. I stand ready to register as Muslim in #solidarity,” Albright tweeted Wednesday. At the same time, she sent out another tweet saying “America must remain open to people of all faiths & backgrounds.”
Albright’s tweet came after the Associated Press reported Wednesday that it had obtained a draft executive order that would suspend for at least 30 days any immigrants to the U.S. from seven predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East and North Africa: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. Trump is expected to sign the order this week.
The new executive order would also prohibit the acceptance of Syrian refugees for at least 120 days.
