Did California Just Prove It’s the Dumbest State in the Nation?

Large swaths of California have declared outright bans on plastic bags. Naturally, they claim it’s an effort to protect and restore the environment.

But their plastic bag ban may be motivated by profit more than a desire to clean up the planet.

As one Youtube user wrote, “This has NOTHING to do with saving the environment. The crooked government realized how much L.A. County was making by charging for paper bags, so they wanted to capitalize on the entire state.”

Take a look at the video below, mull over the facts, and see what you come up with…

Next they will ban plastic bottles. There are good and bad points o that, but the worst will be the loss of jobs due to their stupidity.

California is in such a rush to be number 1 on everything they don’t care who they harm.. The enviro Nazis have struck again!!

      • patriot 86

They are definitely number one for the stupidest state that’s for sure.

      • David Kledzik

Hey they are number 1 in stupidity thats a given….

    • Fran

What about Trash bags and those webbing that hold a 6-pack together. It is all politics under the guise of keeping
the planet clean. What will be Next????

      • MegaMouseGW

Although I am all for recycling, banning stuff that make people lose their jobs is completely insane. If they ban all plastic what will the populace do with their trash??? Paper bags?? Wont that do more harm by taking out the trees?? 90% of people are not gonna take this for much longer. And those tree huggers better wake up because if they don’t California and the nutcases will ban them.

    • allison hunter

If California bans plastic bags what are they going to do with Pelosi, boxer and Feinstein?

      • patriot 86

        Recycle them.

Trade California for our marine imprisoned in Mexico. It would be a much better deal than Sgt. Bergdahl for 5 Muslim terrorists.

    • Fran

The people of California do Not want the Marine in a Mexican jail…please contact the city and resident that is
      guilty…Washington, DC and Obama

      • IFGA

The people in California don’t have any idea of what they want and please stay down there and not come north.

        • Fran

Thank you for your kind suggestion…but I was born and raised in New England and move to California
since my husband is a Marine station in Calif. What is your claim to fame???

          • Robert Pekarik

I have no claim to fame. Just a frustrated American who also served our nation during the Vietnam era in the U. S. Air Force and is fed up with the direction our nation is being led by a corrupt party, a corrupt administration and anti-americans who have no regard for the law, common sense or truthfulness. The democratic party is corrupt to the core and I hope and pray that every citizen who truly loves our country will vote every last democrat out of office.

          • Ellen

            Amen.

          • vettevet

You pretty much covered every point in your comment….straight to the point and right on the mark! I am also Viet Nam vet, retired and definitely and totally fed up with the way our great nation is being trashed. California could be compared to the first domino in the line to collapse. Governor Brown apparently spends late nights thinking long and hard on the quickest and most effective plans to wreck a once great state, then the following day goes to work implementing the plan. I find it hard to believe Californians re-elected this socialist. Apparently they didn’t think he did enough damage the last time he was in office! This comment may seem like an oversimplification to some, but I challenge anyone to state what good he has done for California!

          • IFGA

Three times I returned to the US from Vietnam, each time to California and the stupidity of the local hippies there. Hell I felt safer in Nam than I did on the streets of Berkley. At least in Nam I was able to shoot back.

im with you, im a californian born and raised. im sick and tired of backwards assed fucking inbred hicks bashing all californians. i fight for my state as a republican. but honest people cant fight cheaters, liars, crooks, with words and voting. its time to start shooting liberals.

        • patriot 86

Yes please ‘ we don’t want you in the midwest either .Bunch of freakin loony tunes.

      • Robert Pekarik

Fran, your State has sold out to the far left liberal Obama ideology. You sit by and watch progressive judges nullify the majority of California citizens vote on November 5, 2008 for Proposition 8. You continue to back progressive leaders who’s only intent is to transform America into a wasteland of immorality, minority rule and corruption. When California decides that they love America and the Constitution and Bill of Rights and the rule of law and are not complicit with the corrupt Obama administration then I’ll believe.

        • Fran

Thank you for stating California is my state…I do Not own any state and I have lived all around the
United States while me husband is serving in the Marine Corp.

          • oat21

Fran then you should move out of that commie state before it rots and falls off into the pacific, and thank your husband for being a Marine living in enemy territory.

          • Fran

America is the Best country in the world and it is composed of 50states. What state do you live in??? I have had the opportunity to visit every one of these 50 states…and it is a Great Entire country even with it failings and EVERY state has those.

          • CHABSENTIA

Are you serious?I was born and raised in California when it was the top three in Education if not the best. My family moved as soon as pssible as it was just starting to get bad. I am retired form the U.S. Navy and over twenty years had also been in all 50 States/ I had the saw California at its best and it has now gone to the opposite extreme and is the worst State. Fifty percent of the Revenues to the State of California go to support the Unions and the Unions control it and elect people who support them. The Unions boated how they put Governor Moonbeam in office. You people in California keep electing Boxer and Diane who are anti gun etc and how the people there keep re-electing Pelosi who is a disgrace is beyond me. BTW. There are 49 of the 50 States who can’t pay their future Pension Liabilities because of incompetence . It used to be all fifty. The only one if the entire Country now who has funded Liabilities which means at lest 80% of Future Obligations is Wisconsin. Governor Walker turned it around and the Democrats and their master the Unions tried to recall him . Even though the State is now solvent they are trying to defeat him and it looks like they might do it. I don’t know what standards you use to determine that all States have few failings . You must be in self denial or clueless. BTW. It is not “me husband”. It is my husband.

          • Fran

My! you certainly are critical…I wonder why you are so unhappy. even bringing up an

Thank you and your husband, Fran! Hooah, Marine families.

        • John Redmond

Robert Progressivism is a very backward German ideology that was introduced by John Hopkins University in 1871. Woodrow Wilson, F.D.R., Dewey, and L.B.J. were the pioneers who unconstitutionally replaced our constitution and American school system with this ideology. Yes Kagan, Ginsburg, Roberts, and Kennedy are justices who use this backward ideology and not our constitution to make their decisions. This makes them incompetent and unfit to be Supreme court justices for the U.S. All of the principles of backward progressivism are against all the principles of the constitution and the declaration of independence.

          • Robert Pekarik

John even more reason to eliminate any democratic progressive from ever holding an office again. We need true Constitutional and Bill of Rights candidates who will honor our nation not sell it out.

          • patriot 86

Yup we need people in office loyal to america and not the traitors we have now .

          • CHABSENTIA

You had better get used to it. The Republican House has passed over 300 pieces of Legislation in the last three years and the Senate controlled by the Democrats hasn’t allowed even and up or down vote on them. They even passed the Nuclear Option allows only 51 votes to ratify an appointment so now the Republicans can’t contest an appointment as they only have 47 votes and the Democrats csn just push all such appointments including Justices right away. This also means that 47% of the American people do not have a voice in the Senate as there are 100 members. So anybody that votes for a Democrat in these mid terms is either Anti American or just plain Stupid..

          • David Kledzik

California has always been ahead of the curve on the environment, the rest of the country should follow suit.

    • David Kledzik

Hows that ahead of the curve working out for you… Your states a mess and filthy,, gluttons, we want more, more , more… wasteful in every regard then bitch about it, you all did it to yourselves. Overcrowded, millions of illegals, high crime rates in every major city, suppressors of constitutional rights, pollution galore, high cost of living, lovers of commoncore education, millions on welfare, so whats one more fiasco there did I cover everything… So dont be offended when I tell you to blow it out your ass……

      • Garland Wilson

David: Thank you for your kind comments. It is true that Ca. is over crowded because everyone wants to live there.

        • David Kledzik

I wasnt personally trying to attack you, sorry about the blow ot out part, but California has serious problems, and cant come up with any serious solutions to them…. I’m from San Jose but adopted and moved to Idaho at three years old. My dad worked for Ford motor company in Campbell for a couple of years, both of my parents were from the central U.S. and decided California wasnt the place to be so we moved, and glad we did…. cause the place is a mess, all I can say to you is God Bless and good luck…

  • Archangel

The liberals in California should put those plastic bags to good use and slip them over their heads and pull them tight! That would be a win win situation!

    • patriot 86

      Yup for everyone .

  • Jim Baum

Two of the companies I shop with. Kroger and Walmart both provide containers for their customers to recycle the plastic bags that come from their stores.

    • David Kledzik

Kroget allows guns so does walmart thats where I shop

  • Jenny

I don’t agree with you, David. Plastic does not breakdown in the environment – EVER! And you can’t burn it because it’s tantamount to industrial waste which has been banned from burning. So, our landfills fill up with plastic, and then what? The reason birds and other animals are getting trapped in plastic is because, in some areas, barges take the garbage out to sea and dump it.

Brown paper bags are easily torn and everything falls out on the ground or floor. But aren’t we glad we have bottles made of plastic so they don’t break? To quote George W. Bush: “What difference does it make? We’re all dead anyway.” Our food and water is poisoned.

    • Greyguy

First< I thought your Progressive friend Hillary said What difference does it make over four dead Americans in Bengazi.

Second, Use the plastic bags to pick up after your dog or recycle them.

Let's go a bit further and ban all plastic wraps so we can't wrap meat at the supermarket – how sanitary

There is something called the 100% rule- if you are going to do something do it 100%. So get rid of all the plastic wraps and bottles and see where this takes us; back about 40 years where glass bottles cause severe cuts, paper lacks snaitation when wrapping all sorts of food DO I NEED TO WRITE MY 1500 WORDS BEFORE YOU LUDITES DROWN IN YOUR OWN FILTH DUE TO REJECTING TECHNOLOGY AND HOW TO COPE WITH IT.

      • Jenny

So sad that you youngsters have no idea of what it was like to live in the 40s & 50s. We never got salmonella, we drank out of hoses, we never wore seat belts, we weren’t fat, and we survived! Our generation was more moral and smarter than yours. Where and when do you think technology began?

        • Greyguy

Jenny, I am not that much younger than you, but technology is a double edge sword, it solves problems and creates others. I was one of the first Rh-neg transfussion babies that survived, so I am partial to those who are aware and keep up on technology! But, like cars replacing horses, creating air pollution, which sure beat road apples everywhere, then we mostly solved the emissions from cars, albeit in a heavyhanded, expensive manner[catalytic converters and alcohol in fuel is expensive and counter productive-in Europe they do neither and get higher milage]. Unfortunatey in CA they let third world people across the border with no screening and you end up with third world diseases being transmitted [the entero virus is showing up in the same places that Mr. Obama is shipping illegal immigants coming across the border from Mexico and has killed more children than Ebola so far].

You speak of being from a smarter generation, but you do not seem to have done your home work and analysis on the subject; you are drinking the coolaide from the liberal press which almost never gets the facts strait: All this plastic stuff can be reclaimed, but like where I live the local governments make me spend my gas to take my plstics etc to a very out of the way place, the last place I lived gave me a curb side 50-gal blue drum to put everything in to recycle! LOOK AT WHO BENEFITS BEFORE BLESSING AN IDEA; IT IS PROBABLY SOME RELATIVE OF THE POLITICIAN!

          • Jenny

Road apples don’t create any pollution, though transportation is slower. I neither watch television nor read the newspaper, so I can’t be drinking koolaide now, can I? Obviously most states don’t want to acknowledge that there is a problem with plastic in the garbage. But they still think people should save trees (for Weyerhauser) and water (for NSA).

Where I used to live, in San Diego, the city supplied us with garbage cans for recycling material. I don’t know if that was for the entire city/county or just a fraction. Did you know San Diego has a plant where they clean sewer water and make it drinkable? I think it’s out in East County, Lakeside perhaps. The various states just need to learn to recycle plastic — ah, but they prefer not to have to spend money – just rake it in. Maybe if a company develops a way to recycle plastic, the state might enter a contract with them.

The bible does say that in the last days knowledge will increase. I think that’s the technology you’re referring to. However, education has worsened with each generation. Graduates today can’t even balance a checkbook. And it’s getting worse with Common Core!

          • Greyguy

First, a few thousand horses going down your street vs cars might make you feel differently, if you put enough of anything in one place it will pollute. Outhouses used to grow good gardens, now we have sewer systems
Second, it is the gov’t you extoll that has dumbed down the Ed world
Third, the reason so Cal can grow so much is they powers that be are diverting water from irrigation in the valley of the north and putting it into population growth in th south, which makes us import food from South & Central America hurting out economy!
Fourth, of course we know how to recycle, only our politicians make it costly & hard for the individual to do, so guess what, we avoid doing it!

          • Jenny

Streets wouldn’t need to be paved, and you must be nuts if you think people ever used the refuse from outhouses to grow gardens! Compost piles consist of dead leaves, grass clippings, coffee grounds and such. Outhouses have deep holes to contain the bacteria. You might want to put your plastics in a deep hole and bury it.

The farmers in central Calif. are screaming because a law was passed to protect some little-bitty fish and they won’t let the farmers irrigate their crops!

Southern Calif. is in a drought, and they’re rationing water. Some bottling company is draining the Colorado River, meanwhile the NSA is attempting to take over all the water in southern Calif.

It wasn’t too long ago that WA state supplied water to Calif. and drove up our cost of utilities.

Most of the populated areas in Calif. is desert and needs water from other places to survive. San Diego was working on a desalination plant off Pt. Loma, however, with the advent of Fukushima, that plan must’ve been scraped.

    • independent thinker

Wrong on so many levels. One is “Plastic does not breakdown in the environment – EVER” I have used plastic bags to wrap things in that needed temporary protection and if I leave them out too long they turn to dust. Two, modern plastic bags are designed to burn in an environmentally friendly way if burned in a HOT fire.

      • Jenny

Plastic is like McDonald’s hamburgers – they last forever! I don’t know what kind of plastic you’re using (doesn’t sound like plastic at all) but if it was the genuine article, it would never break down!

Oh yes, you can burn plastic – IF the laws in your county allow it!

    • David Kledzik

Recycle it then, quit throwing it in the damn trash, we have the technology. Maybe quit dumping garbage at sea where two thirds of the worlds oxygen comes from… Not that all californians are pigs ,but most are. All the trash along the freeways, disgusting… they reap what they sow, and then complain about it….

      • Jenny

They do recycle plastic in some areas – which is a good idea! Unfortunately, they don’t do it everywhere. For the most part, you’re right about Californian being pigs! Even with fines being imposed for littering, they still dump their trash wherever they happen to be.

I grew up in San Diego in the 40s. It was pristine then but, as more people moved into the area, it became a pig sty!

        • David Kledzik

Well there are obviously some good ones left like you, and doing the right thing is important, weird if how the litterbbugs just use. a little common sense and effort alot of the problem would be gone………

  • Turk

God help the trees! Paper bags may be degradeable but they use trees.

    • David Kledzik

Then the tree huggers will bitch about that while they sit in their homes which have alot of wood products in them, what a bunch of hypocrites

      • Turk

Where I live, trees are a renewable resorce. No tree huggers here. Californians want to do away with the bags but want us here to provide the trees for their paper.

        • David Kledzik

          You from Oregon

          • Turk

            Alabama

          • David Kledzik

Good old hardwood… Beautiful state Alabama,,, been there several times nice people, d.c. could take lessons from ypur state

        • David Kledzik

And water for their cities and hydroelectric power from our dams here in Idaho, your right they are a renewable resource but why should we give it to them they dont give a crap about our states.

    • David Kledzik

Californians arent smart enough to plant new trees when they harvest one

    • David Kledzik

Not to say your a hypocrite or a tree hugger.

Governor Jerry Brown and the State Legislators are completely out of Control. The legislation, court decisions, and public policies which are openly antagonistic to Biblical moral values. Every informed Christian realizes that something must be done. However, it is absolutely vital that wise,Scriptural steps be taken. Its time to take action on “Secular Humanism”
only after we deal with the condition. BE A MAN who “understands the times” We live in a time of Social Progressive ideas

  • Mifke547

Having been a citizen of the United States for 67 years and a citizen of California for almost 25 yearts, I KNOW (not THINK. KNOW) that government almost never does anything for the right reason. There has to be a profit in a mover for SOMEBODY. I believe that fines and restriction payments are usually done to give government more money to throw down the crapper. The “purchase” of plastic bags is just a case in point. I made it a point to ask who gets the 10 cents for the bag. If it was the retailer, I might have been able to go along with it. But it is the government. In my case its the Glendale city government.

We fought a war to separate from England, in large part because of taxation without representation. I would like to inqure as to how many of you folks out there feel that you are actually being represented at ANY level of government. I surely don’t. I contend that taxation without REAL reperesentation is just as rampant today as it was before 1776. Our tax money (whatever the sourse) is being poured down the toilet bowl more rapidly than ever before. And there is, supposedly, nothing we can do about it. Buit I had, well, let’s call it a dream. Yeah, that’s what it was. A dream, that the the population rose up on our hind legs and said, “NO MORE!!!” to the spendthrifts in governemnt. I dreamed that we all just simply refused to pay our taxes. That would cut off government’s supply of “air.” Of course, I would NEVER actually suggest that we do something like that. No, no. That might be illegal, and I don’t ever recommend that we do anything illegal. But it was a interesting dream. Has anyone out there ever had a similar dream? Not thought. Nope. We should never actually THINK about such a thing. Be we can’t control our dreams, can we???

    • David Kledzik

I had a weird dream like that once….

    • bud gaulden

You must remember that the government doesn’t want you to think. Just be good little mindless drone and keep drinking the kool aid.

  • Ellen

Paper bags are recyclable and biodegradable. Can plastic bags be recycled?. I do not think plastic bags are biodegradable. To help save our planet I bring my own cloth bags that are washable. No problem with contamination.

    • Bob Link

I saw this coming so I have been saving my plastic bags for over a year so that I will have garbage bags in the kitchen at least for a while.

    • David Kledzik

Yes they can be, will the government implement it probably not easier to blame everyone else.

  • Ellen

California should also clean themselves up by deporting all illegals. They seem to be the most illegal friendly state. And Obama is not even based there.

  • Hotnike

What needs to be banned are stupid lawmakers!!!!

  • Mary

I take my plastic bags to the recycle box at Walmart.

  • James

Take your own bags in! Make, have made to your spec’s grocery bags, or just buy them! There that was not hard!

  • Marie Doyle

The stupidity of the California Democrat Legislators is beyond measure. The very fact that they are subject to the demands of Unions (who bought and paid for most of them) deems them totally disinterested in the needs and wants of the citizens and businesses of the State. Moonbeam and his entire band of desperados need to be repalced.

  • gigologene

    Great video, very well explained.

You people in “Kalifornia ” makes me sick . You bloody morons gave us Piglozi, Baxter , Feinstein ,Waxman etc … Election after election you idiots keep sending these morons to WDC .Just join the Mexico already we’ll be much better of without you imbeciles .

    • David Kledzik

Makes you wish the San Andreas fault line worked better huh….

  • Lummi

Califonia has become the “poster state” for every far-left, ultra-liberal, screwball theory and agenda that the devout nut cases in Sacramento can conceive. I spent many years in California during my career and have many friends from the state. They all a re creative, intelligent people, most tending toward the conservative spectrum. What I never will understand is why so many Californians are apparently so ill informed, or simply uncaring about their own well being as to continue to elect the crazies that they do. Perhaps they get comfort in not having to make decisions about how thay will be allowed to live their lives.

  • JBRoux

No, they proved it many times before. Ask a silly question…..

  • Huffer

What was not mentioned here is the fact that cutting trees for paper also removes the C02 filters from the environment. Trees live on and C02. They suck it in during the daylight hours and emit fresh oxygen at night.
Most (so-called) environmentalist’s may know what the end result is they are aiming for, but haven’t the slightest idea of how to efficiently reach that goal. Environmentalist’s are being played by the liberal money grabber’s!
Time for people to learn how nature works and they might shut up about their asinine proposals. Californian’s need to learn that there is no FREE lunch. Someone will have to pay and they scream the loudest when the bill comes due with their name on it.

  • karaoke guy

Being in the business of plastic bags, let me enlighten all of you……There are a multitude of extruders here in California…. They all have equipment for recycling the bags they, or anyone else sells. California has laws in effect that require a mfr. to declare the amount of secondary or post consumer waste plastic is contained in their products. Therefore these freakin’ idiots don’t know they already have requirements in place. The Integrated Waste Management Board here in Cal. are all appointees and don’t know their asses from the proverbial “hole.”
What jerks ! and all democrats !!! Need I say more ?????

Here’s a thought for the folks of California, try banning the norm of only voting for folks who’s I.Q. is smaller than their shoe size, Period! No one is to blame for California’s out-of-control government but………”The People of California that vote for Idiots”! Gov. “Moon-beam” wasted his brain on drugs way back in the 60’s, and “You” elected him to be the Governor?????? “WHAT”!

  • Jeff Johnson

What can you expect from the state that brought us Pelosi, Waters, and Boxer, not to mention re-electing Brown as Governor?

  • ralph

We need this person in the senate. But as far as California goes they vote for the democrats year after year and then they wine. well good I hope they enjoy their communist life every time they vote

Although this is a bit off topic, I think its interesting enough to post it here. A recent poll showed that, with many of Obama’s lies (the ones he told while campaigning) now exposed, if the election were to be held again, Romney would wipe the floor with Maobama. This means that he was elected on the basis of the lies that he told. Now, in the real world, if an employer finds that you lied on an application, in all probability you’ll be fired. Well, let’s remember the old goose and gander. Obama should be impeached AND CONVICTED as he patently lied on his application. Now, if we (and by WE I mean real Americans) do take back the senate next week and assuming that we hold onto the house, there should be a move resulting in Maobama’s impeachment AND CONVICTION. Anybody agree with me?

Talk about poetic INjustice. My younger sister is an Obama-loving welfare type. I am the opposite. But SHE has moved (recently) to Alabama, and I live in Calfornia (which is like a bowl of cereal – full of fruits, nuts and flakes.) Dammitall, SHE should be out here and I should be in Alabama.

Austin, TX has a plastic bag ban, too! Merchants easily get around it with paper bags and plastic bags with handles. Dumb, Dumb Dumb, Austin and California.

    Give California back to Mexico.

California proved they’re really stupid when their legislature decided to allow children to decide what sex they are when registering for school.

I too am a Vietnam veteran that return back to this state after the war I was spit on as I walk through the airport by the Hanoi Jane and Tom Hayden’s of the world we in California are for most part conservative we’re here to change back to what the 40th president of United States had in this state and we will fight the hundreds of thousands of us that are contributing to retain it back to conservatism don’t care if you’re Republican or Democrat just if you’re conservative we love this state as well as United States and have faught for the country and will fight to turn it back. You wanting to give the state away to Mexico so if you get one Marine back isn’t the answer it’s plain stupidity by making statements like that come to the state and help fight to get her back to conservatism if you really care if not shut your mouth
