Newly Discovered FBI-Operated “Air Force” Secretly Patrols U.S. Cities
Perhaps you’re outside mowing the yard, playing a round of golf, relaxing at the beach, or watching your kid’s Little League game…
“That’s odd.” you think to yourself.
You keep hearing the constant drone of a Cessna circling your town.
“I wonder what they’re looking for?”
Well, wonder no more.
The FBI now operates a secret Air Force, using front companies without a judge’s approval, for ongoing investigations in cities across the United States.
WASHINGTON (AP) – The FBI is operating a small air force with scores of low-flying planes across the country carrying video and, at times, cellphone surveillance technology – all hidden behind fictitious companies that are fronts for the government, The Associated Press has learned.
The planes’ surveillance equipment is generally used without a judge’s approval, and the FBI said the flights are used for specific, ongoing investigations. The FBI said it uses front companies to protect the safety of the pilots and aircraft. It also shields the identity of the aircraft so that suspects on the ground don’t know they’re being watched by the FBI.
In a recent 30-day period, the agency flew above more than 30 cities in 11 states across the country, an AP review found.
Of course this news raises lots of questions.
How long has the FBI been doing this? Since 9/11, or before?
Why are they doing it? Finding sources and activity of drug trafficking? Spotting terrorist activity? Spying on ALL of us?
Why no judge’s approval? Because it’s a blanket surveillance practice with no specific target?
Who are the front companies? Is it really to shield the identity of the aircraft so suspects don’t know they’re being watched, or to shield the companies so we don’t know who’s involved in spying on us?
Does this FBI surveillance practice make you feel safer…
Or does it scare you?
