Longtime Clinton friend says Hillary is done with politics

For those who are opposed to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, this is certainly good news. For those who support the former secretary of state — not so much.

According to Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D), a longtime friend of Hillary and Bill Clinton, the political pair is done with politics following Clinton’s shocking loss to Republican Donald Trump last month.

“I think so, sure. I don’t think Hillary has any interest in running again,” McAuliffe said during an interview on WTOP-AM’s “Ask the Governor” program, according to the Washington Post.

The loss has been very difficult for the Clintons to stomach, according to the Virginia governor, who spent years as a top fundraiser and political adviser to the Clinton family:

This is hard on anybody. I mean, can you imagine having to go through this? I’ve had many conversations with the Clinton family. We’re friends. It’s hard, very tough. I think on Election Day, everybody felt pretty good. I think the Trump campaign thought they were gonna lose. And you know, this is what happens in elections.

And when he was asked if Clinton — who has recently been spotted hiking in the woods more than once since the election — is finished with politics, McAuliffe had this to say:

I don’t think Hillary has any interest in running again. I’ll let her speak for herself. I haven’t asked her that. I think [Bill’s] probably going to go back, working on all the good deeds he’s done before in helping people around the globe. You know, there are elections. We’ve got to move forward. As governor of Virginia, I’ve got to move forward.

Clinton has made only a few public appearances since leaving the campaign trail, one of which was a speech she delivered at the annual Children’s Defense Fund gala just days after Election Day.
